MAY 7 - "In Bright Mansions": A MUSICAL BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE TO DR. ROLAND M. CARTER - 5:00 PM

Lowcountry Voices under the direction of Nathan L. Nelson will join with African-American choral music icon, Dr. Roland M. Carter, in celebration of his 75th birthday.  The event is part of the North Charleston Cultural Arts Festival and will take place at St. Peter's AME Church, 4650 Sanders Avenue (off East Montague) in North Charleston.

Joining Lowcountry Voices in the celebration will be the Claflin University Concert Choir under the direction of Dr, Isaiah McGee and Ms. Corinthia Sims, an award winning young soprano soloist.  Dr. Carter will direct two of his most well-known arrangements, with Lowcountry Voices being joined by guest participants from around the United States who have previously performed the two songs under Dr. Carter or in any other choral experience.

Lowcountry Voices presents HEALING: the Promise of Martin Luther King's Legacy, 5pm, at St Matthew Baptist Church, 2005 Reynolds Avenue, North Charleston, SC.  The music will speak to the life and legacy of Dr. King under the theme of "HEALING".  Director Nathan L. Nelson hopes that those who attend will leave inspired and empowered to promote healing and move forward with a loving spirit that embraces all humankind.

Lowcountry Voices presents the Annual Martin Luther King Commemorative Concert, sponsored in part by the North Charleston Cultural Arts Department.  The concert will honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. with a diverse repertoire of musical selections which will highlight the Civil Rights Era, the progress that has been made toward achieving racial harmony, and the current cry for peace, brotherhood, and harmony for all mankind as envisioned by King.  

The theme, "Shed A Little Light" by iconic James Taylor, speaks to King's legacy: "Oh, let us turn our thoughts today to Martin Luther King and recognize that there are ties between us, all men and women living on the Earth, ties of hope and love of sister- and brotherhood".
